Just Keep Laughing Posted On 22 January 2021

Bristol Improv Theatre is combatting another lockdown with an interactive virtual story-telling game, which guarantees belly-laughs.

The theatre, which is based in Clifton, has moved all of its classes virtually, and have also come up with the new game, ‘Well That Escalated Quickly’.

The interactive, multiplayer game is targeted at all ages, and is suitable for anyone, from dramatical novices, to improv connoisseurs. The company also states that all that is needed to take part, is an internet connection, an imagination, and a readiness to jump in and play.

The game itself is designed and facilitated by the Bristol Improv Theatre, but is led and played by participants, with the team behind the game promising ‘A host of different scenarios, obstacles and unexpected twists and turns are thrown your way as you work in your team to try to stop things from escalating too quickly’. Although this may sound like a lot of information at once, the improv group is quick to mention that ‘We’ll do all the work’. Therefore, this game offers a perfect opportunity to someone who is interested in improv, but is otherwise unsure about how to get involved.

This is far from all the theatre are offering this lockdown, though. They are also providing an array of other lessons, from acting and singing workshops, to virtual games nights hosted over Zoom. Amy Iles, who works at the theatre, commented on the theatre’s desire to continue to offer its services to customers, saying, ‘The Bristol Improv Theatre has been embracing a foray into opportunities online to combat the continued closure of our theatre’.

Shows will run between February 6th and 27th, and will take place at 8pm on Fridays and 4pm and 8pm on Saturdays. The tickets will cost £20 each. For more information, and to book your ticket, visit https://improvtheatre.co.uk/online-storytelling-game/
