The success of I’m a Celebrity 2020 Posted On 03 December 2020

Only four stars left in the running to become the first King or Queen of the Castle (Contains spoilers)

It’s been nearly three weeks since the celebrities went into Gwrych Castle in Wales and it’s fair to say that even though the celebs didn’t make it to Australia that this year’s show has been a success. In fact, from the viewing figures, it is the most-watched show of 2020!

More than half the available TV audience sat down to watch it at any one time, and it opened with a peak launch of 12million viewers. It is also the biggest overnight audience on any channel since the BBC’s Gavin and Stacey Christmas special! Leaving some to believe that the change of scenery coupled with the Nicey-nicey cast has had a positive impact and not the negative one some feared.

The nation has fallen in love with some not-so-well-known celebrities along the way such as Jordan North from Radio 1, Giovanna Fletcher, best-selling author and podcast host as well as some more well-known figures such as Mo Farah, Shane Richie, Vernon Kay and Russell Watson.

This series has had many classic moments and prompted countless memes including Jordan North’s hilarious new catchphrase when doing a trial, “Happy place, happy place, Turf Moor,” and Paralympian Hollie Arnold’s ending her introduction in the first episode by always mentioning her MBE. “Hollie Arnold MBE,” anyone…

There has been very little friction between the group which has been a nice change from previous reality shows a’la Big Brother and Love Island, and it may be this that has seen the huge viewing numbers. After all, what is wrong with seeing a group of nice people coming together and bonding? There doesn’t always need to be tension.

And now we are down to the final four. Who knew Giovanna would come to be known as ‘Momma G,’ while who could have guessed that Shane Richie has such a warm, caring side to him as seen when he shared his Lindt chocolate balls with Momma G when she missed out on a treat from her family?

Vernon will forever be known to a generation as the face of T4 as well as Family Fortunes, and it was no surprise to see that he is a genuine, nice guy. And this brings us to the fourth remaining celeb: Jordan North. No one would have guessed before he went in that the DJ, who has the nickname, ‘The Substitute,’ at Radio 1, would be the standout celeb on the show?

So who will be the King or Queen of the Castle? All four have a good shout and it very hard to pick, however, if we had to take a guess, we would say, Vernon Kay.

The final is on ITV at 9 pm tomorrow, Friday the 4th of December.
